Bird Watching
The Yuctatán peninsula lies on the route of many migratory birds finding food and shelter on their journey. The flourishing Mayan jungle also is the home of many resident birds, 11 of them even endemic to the state of Quintana Roo. Whether you are an experienced birder, a newbie to the world of our feathered friends or just interested in nature in general, a bird watching tour will make you sing for joy.
Go birding with Ave Maya, who has almost 30 years of experience as active birder in the state of Quintana Roo. During his years as nature guide he has developed a great knowledge of the native and visiting birds of the region. On the tour, Ave Maya will take you to several birding "hot spots" near Tulum to observe as many winged beauties as possible for the season of the year by foot. Get ready to lift your binoculars already on the way – there’s a lot to see in the sky and trees as soon as you step out of the door. At the end of the tour day you will get a list of the species seen on the bird watching walk.
About your guide: Ave Maya’s love for birds begun at the age of 7 deep in the hilly jungle of Chiapas, where he grew up. Since then, birds have been his spiritual guides and led him onto his professional path. During his career he has participated in scientific bird banding in the Sian Ka’an nature reserve and won several bird and nature photography competitions. He also contributed his knowledge and prized photographs of many bird species to the book "Sal a Pajarear" by Barbara MacKinnon, considered by many birders the field guide bible of the Yucatán peninsula.
