Sian Ka’an by Boat
Explore the abundant nature in the UNESCO world heritage site on an exclusive private tour through the different ecosystems connected by water in the protected area south of Tulum with a size of 528’148 hectares: on this tour you see and learn about the abundant life in the coral reef, mangroves, palm savannah, wetlands, tropical forest, fresh water lagoons and cenotes.
By boat you ride along the lagoon of the protected nature reserve towards the sea. On the way, you can encounter crocodiles, many resident and migratory birds – and with some luck even the endangered manatees. After reaching the sea, you can enjoy a walk on the beach with the second largest barrier reef of the world only some hundred meters off shore. Then the boat takes you back into the lagoon through the maze-like mangrove channels, which were used by the natives as trade routes when they inhabited "the place where the sky is born" (what Sian Ka’an means in the Mayan language). Get in touch with the local culture by visiting an ancient Mayan watch tower before reaching the final stop at the bird islands. When you take the tour in the afternoon, what we highly recommend, you can watch the sunset over the lush tropical jungle and hundreds of birds returning home for the night.
