The deeply cleansing ritual has a thousand year old tradition in Mexico derived from the Pre-Hispanic indigenous people of Mesoamerica. In the ancient times a Temazcal (or Temāzcalli how it is called in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, which translates to “the house of heat”) was often practiced after battles and appreciated by the warriors for its healing powers. In complete darkness you sweat it all out when the steam of the ceremonial water fills the chamber when it is poured over the red-hot volcanic stones.
